![]() ![]() Then hit play on your DAW if things are configured correctly, the dry track will pass through its own output on the audio interface, which will feed the Reamper and in turn your amplifier. Solo your dry track, and turn on your amp (It’s a good idea to start with the levels turned low on your Reamp® device and your amplifier to start with – you can bring the levels up once you’re confirmed you have good signal passing through). Testing your setup so far: Before moving forward, you can do a quick test to ensure that you’ve got things connected and routed correctly so far. Then the output of the Reamper will connect to your pedals and amplifier using an unbalanced TS instrument cable (see figure 3). Out of the box connections: At this point, if you haven’t done so already you will want to connect Line Out 3 from the interface to the input of your Reamp® device of choice, using a balanced TRS or XLR cable (see figure 2). On the Apollo Twin outputs 1 and 2 will usually feed your studio monitors, so we will select ‘LINE OUT 3’ (see figure 1). The next thing you’ll want to do is assign the output of your track to an unused line out on your audio interface. You want as much signal level as possible for the best signal-to-noise ratio, so bring up the level control on this channel until you are getting as much signal out of the track as possible without clipping or ‘going into the red.’ You can always turn the level down later using the Reamp® box if needed, but it will be difficult to add more gain during later stages without also increasing your noise floor. Our goal with this track is to get it out of the DAW and into our amp and effects, so we will need to route the output accordingly and provide a good strong signal level to feed our Reamp® device.īegin by starting playback and noting how much signal is present on the output meter for your dry track. This is called your ‘dry’ track or ‘direct’ track since it’s a tap right from the instrument itself, and it typically hasn’t been run through any pedal effects or an amplifier. ![]() The best place to start when Reamping is with your prerecorded audio source track, which is typically a guitar or bass captured through a high quality direct box. The equipment we used for the example Reamping session included a Macbook Pro and an Apollo Twin as the audio interface, but the steps described can be replicated using any interface and computer. While our previous Reamp® Academy post focused on the steps involved in the Reamping process, this entry will walk you through how to setup and route your tracks with some of the most popular DAWs ( Logic Pro, Ableton, Cubase, and ProTools) so you can have a smooth and successful Reamping session. If you are a newcomer to Reamping in the studio, one question you likely have is how to set up your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) for best results.

On the bright side for this review, the actual cryptography in MetaMask is fairly limited: as a wallet, it must generate and store Ethereum public and private keys and it also needs to handle “simple” operations like ECDSA signing. When a web application needs to send a transaction to a smart contract (e.g., because you want to deposit money into Aave), MetaMask is responsible for signing the transaction and shipping the transaction to the chain. In its most popular instantiation, MetaMask ships as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. Of course, web apps can’t communicate directly to blockchains, nor are they a good place to store private keys. (Security here usually means HTTPS, so anyone who hacks a server or steals a Cloudflare API key can change these apps’ code in malicious ways.) Web3 front-ends are just web apps, and typically they’re served to your browser via standard web infrastructure. Generally this means it relies on a smart contract running in a network like Ethereum. What makes dapps special is the back-end portion, which is decentralized. It consists of many “decentralized apps” (dapps), each of which typically comprises a (typically Javascript) front-end web app, as well as some back-end business logic. Since many readers have probably never used DeFi, I figure I should give a quick background here on “web3” and MetaMask in particular.įrom a technical perspective, web3 is pretty straightforward. If you already know what MetaMask does, skip this part. If you’re hoping that this will actually lead to anything exciting, I suspect you’ll be very disappointed. If you enjoy reading crypto code for entertainment, this post might be for you. To make you feel “like you were there”, I’m going to discuss the review more or less in the order it occurred - including the embarrassing part where I went off the rails and reviewed the wrong code. In this post I’m going to justify these opinions by walking you through a casual skim of MetaMask’s code and and crypto dependencies. This made me uncomfortable, given how much money these routines are responsible for securing. My TL DR is that finding and reviewing the correct code was made difficult because there were far too many different organizations owning the dependencies that led to the crypto routines themselves. And some of it is a (non-trivial) gripe: this code is is much harder to audit than it should be.Īnd this last part isn’t just a personal gripe. Some of this stuff is basically unavoidable: file it under “browser crypto is scary.” Some is specific to the way the code is laid out. What I did come back with is an uncomfortable feeling about the complexity and quality of MetaMask’s (current) crypto code, and some unhappy feelings about its dependency structure. So let me be clear as possible right now: I did not find any exploitable vulnerabilities in MetaMask’s crypto! Although I had a couple of scary moments, those were entirely on me. I swear that this offhand Tweet was not meant to make anyone unhappy or scare people that their funds were at risk. I decided to look at MetaMask’s crypto, and oh wow I wish I could unlook.- Matthew Green January 12, 2022 (In fact I did about half the work on my phone while eating a burrito bowl at Chipotle.)Īfter an hour or two of hunting through dependencies, I made the mistake of tweeting about my feelings: In fact my “review” mostly involved poking around various Github repositories to see if I could find anything that immediately jumped out as incorrect, and failing that, at least could give me a feeling for the quality of MetaMask’s crypto code. I want to stress that this was an informal code review: I didn’t use any tooling, didn’t even download (most) code to my computer. While there are lots of different ways I could lose that money, taking a look at MetaMask’s crypto seemed like as good a place to start as any. My interest in MetaMask is mostly just based on curiosity: I recently invested about $100 into a decentralized finance application and I wanted to see how safe it really was. Otherwise you might want to read something more exciting: I suggest Moxie’s recent post on web3.įor reasons I can’t fully explain, the other day I decided that it might be fun to spend an hour or two investigating the cryptography used by MetaMask.įor those who aren’t familiar with the tool, MetaMask is a browser-based cryptocurrency wallet that is used used to access decentralized applications (dapps) on networks like Ethereum. ![]() If you’re the kind of person who likes a meandering and amateurish code review that goes absolutely nowhere, you’ll enjoy this post. It does not describe any vulnerabilities. NB: This post describes a very casual code review of a few cryptography functions used by MetaMask. ![]() It is considered to be a very safe drug for the treatment and control of heartworm disease, intestinal parasite infestation, and fleas. Linus Pauling who invented the Pauling scale assigned the electronegativity of fluorine as 4. There are many scales of it and one of them is the Pauling Scale. We calculate it rather than measuring it on a relative scale. HCL is an example of a polar covalent bond. That is more electronegative and it gives a small negative charge to the atom which helps in bonding. Moreover, this uneven sharing of electrons results in a small negative charge on the atom. Then the atom with higher-level takes the maximum share of the bonding electrons. When an atom is highly electronegative it is bonded covalently to an atom that that is lesser electronegative. When the atoms react with the similar electronegativity, they tend to form covalent bonds and in these bonds, and electrons share the atoms. In Canada, more than 40% of adults over 30 do not meet the daily recommended intake of dietary magnesium: about 300mg/day for women, and 400mg/day for men. However, since magnesium is found in small quantities over a large wide variety of foods, it can be a challenge to consume enough magnesium through diet alone. Magnesium is found in many whole food sources, such as leafy green vegetables, nuts and seeds, and legumes. Given that magnesium has such a crucial role to play in nearly all functions of the body, it comes as no surprise that a deficiency in magnesium can manifest in symptoms big and small, from head to toe.Ĭonditions associated with magnesium deficiency include: fatigue, headache, low mood and/or anxiety, poor sleep, muscle cramping, acid reflux, constipation, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, poor insulin sensitivity, osteoporosis, and more. How do I know if I’m getting enough magnesium? In short, magnesium is required for any process in the body that requires energy! In addition to cellular energy, magnesium is also responsible for stabilizing and repairing our DNA, regulating the way our nerves conduct signals, and ensuring that muscles relax after contraction. Every time a cell produces a unit of energy, called adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the ATP molecule must bind to magnesium in order to be biologically active. One such reaction, perhaps the single most important, is the production of cellular energy. For over 300 of these enzymes, magnesium is an essential partner. This is because magnesium is a cofactor in the myriad of chemical reactions that keep us alive.Įnzymes are proteins that facilitate these chemical reactions-whether that’s breaking down food for fuel, or metabolizing toxins before they can do harm. Magnesium is fundamental in countless processes that keep the body running smoothly. Why is magnesium so important for optimal health? Only 1% of our total magnesium circulates within our bloodstream. ![]() ![]() The rest (~30 to 40%) is found in our muscles and organs. More than half of our magnesium (~60%) is found in our bones. Magnesium is one of the most essential nutrients for maintaining good health.
